Welcome to MWPC Community Water Polo – home of FlippaBall and District Junior competitions for school-aged children (School Years 2–11).

Our programs are designed to be fun, inclusive, and a great introduction to the sport of water polo. Whether you’re brand new to the game or looking to build on your skills, there’s a place for you at Melville Water Polo Club.

 

SEASON 2026/27 EXPRESSION OF INTEREST FORM FOR NEW PLAYERS – SCHOOL YEARS IN 2026 – YEAR 2 to YEAR 11

 

New Player EOI’s for Season 2026-27 are now open for children in School Years in 2026 yrs2-11. Please fill in the google FORM HERE to be added to our communication lists for new registrations for New Players for the next season. (Existing and Returning players do not need to fill in this form) 

Registrations for new players usually occurs in July / August each year with the season starting week 1 of Term 4. 

 

Competitions Overview

Friday FlippaBall (School Years 2-6)

A non-competitive, social community based competition aimed at introducing children to the aquatic sport of water polo (or with 1–2 years of experience). 

Modified rules, smaller pool size, and a focus on learning and fun. Teams are up to 12 players and are a mix of boys and girls.

Saturday District Juniors (School Years 5-11)

Is an intra-club competition aimed at children with some FlippaBall experience (experience is not compulsory but swimming ability is important).

Games are more structured, and competitive, with smaller teams designed to build skills and knowledge and prepare players for higher-level water polo.

  • Teams: Max 12 players .
  • Game Times: 5:45 PM to 7:45 PM (youngest groups play first)*
  • Format: Round-robin. No scores kept or ladder. Focus is on fun and fundamental water polo skills and team work.

Eligibility & Age Groups

  • Year 2: 1 July 2015 – 30 June 2016
  • Year 3: 1 July 2014 – 30 June 2015
  • Year 4: 1 July 2013 – 30 June 2014
  • Year 5: 1 July 2012 – 30 June 2013
  • Year 6: 1 July 2011 – 30 June 2012

Swimming proficiency: Minimum VacSwim Level 7 (swim 20 metres and perform breaststroke)

SATURDAY DISTRICT JUNIORS (School Years 5–11)

Season Dates

    • Term 4 2026:  first game – date TBC
    • Term 4 2026:  last game – date TBC
    • Term 1 2027:  re-starts – date TBC*
    • Term 1 2027:  last game – date TBC
  • Teams: Max 10 players (ideally 8 players for Years 10–11).
  • Game Times: 8:00 AM – 12:40 PM (youngest groups play first)*
  • Format: Round-robin plus finals.

Eligibility & Age Groups

  • Year 5: 1 July 2015 – 30 June 2016
  • Year 6: 1 July 2014 – 30 June 2015
  • Year 7: 1 July 2013 – 30 June 2014
  • Year 8: 1 July 2012 – 30 June 2013
  • Year 9: 1 July 2011 – 30 June 2012
  • Years 10–11: 1 July 2009 – 30 June 2011

(Students in Year 12 in 2026 are ineligible and are encouraged to join the Senior Program – please email registrar@melvillewaterpolo.com.au )

Swimming proficiency: Minimum VacSwim Level 9 (able to swim 50m freestyle and perform eggbeater).

Metro League Players

Players selected for U14/U16 JML A Division must inform the Junior Coordinator for eligibility and team placement. There will be a capped number of JML players per team – JML players are subject to Club approval and parents and managers will be informed as required. Parents should refrain from inviting JML players into teams prior to registration and informing the Club and requesting approval. Gender distribution along with A grade / B grade competition grading will be taken into account when approving JML players.

WAWPI U12 Junior Metro League players are expected to play in either competition (preferably District Juniors) as part of their game play development and additional training opportunity. JML players are subject to Club approval and parents and managers will be informed as required. Parents should refrain from inviting JML players into teams prior to registration and informing the Club and requesting approval. Gender distribution along with A grade / B grade competition grading will be taken into account when approving JML players.

Expression of Interest (EOI) for New Players (School Years 4–11):

  • Places in School Years 4-11 are offered based on availability after the priority period for returning player registrations. Completing this EOI form is not a confirmation of a place in the program. The Club endeavors to accomodate as many new players as possible into teams. 

IMPORTANT NOTES

  • Register for the school year your child will be in for Term 4 2026 (not Term 1 2027).
  • No playing up or down year groups is permitted. Ages will be checked and children registered into the incorrect age groups will be deregistered and their fees refunded. If you have any queries regarding age groupings, please email flippaball@melvillewaterpolo.com.au prior to registering. 
  • Registration is only confirmed once full payment is received.
  • Team nominations and player requests will be actioned once all registrations are paid and places in the program secured. Note that the Club has final say in team distributions, player placement, gender distribution, placement of JML players. Stacked teams will not be accepted and teams will be reviewed each year for reasonableness at the time of registration. 
  • KidSport vouchers must be processed before registering. See details below in pricing.

PoloSkills™ Holiday Program & PoloSwim

POLOSKILLS™ HOLIDAY CAMPS

  • Run during September/October and December/January school holidays.
  • Focus on building fundamental water polo skills in a fun environment and game play.
  • Open to all players confident in the water and at a minimum Level 7 swimming competency with breaststroke kick).
  • Great preparation for the season ahead.

    • All Year 2/3 FlippaBall players are strongly encouraged to sign up to the beginner level holiday program to  gain some experience and skills to prepare them before the season begins.

DECEMBER 26/JANUARY 2027 HOLIDAY PROGRAM

  • The December 2026/January 2027 PoloSkills Holiday Camp dates will be released in November 2026.

POLOSWIM™ PROGRAM

  • Term-based training focusing on water polo-specific swimming skills.
  • Improves treading water, ball handling, and leg work strength. All skills will be covered in the sessions – swimming with the ball, techniques for holding and passing.
  • This program is lane based and provides repetitive instruction for greater foundation skill acquisition and is graduated in skill and difficulty.

  • Not a learn-to-swim program – Level 7 swimming competency required.

MWPC Junior Duke Classic Tournament January 2027

 

 

EXPRESSION OF INTEREST FORM for individual nominations for the 2027 Junior Duke Classic can be found HERE

 

The inaugural MWPC Junior Duke Classic was first held in January 2025 and saw 130+ participants from U12 to U14 compete in a round robin tournament across 3 days, leading to a final series on the last day of competition. This event was aimed at up and coming U12 and U14 JL and country participants.

In January 2026 the second MWPC Junior Duke Classic Tournament was held and saw a fantastic uptake of participants from every Junior Metro Club in Perth, and regional and interstate and international participants competing. 

 

Tournament Overview for 2027 is currently being planned.
